Domain and IP Registration (RDAP)

Check domain dates and status, or public IP registration ranges and network names.

Instructions, guides and related tools

Enter a domain or public IPv4 / IPv6 (example.com / 8.8.8.8 / 2001:4860:4860::8888). URLs, CIDR ranges and private IPs are excluded. .jp domains are handed off to WHOIS

What this tool does

Find the registry from the IANA bootstrap and show its RDAP registration object. This page does not speak the WHOIS protocol and has no DNS record-type selector.

How to read the result

registration and expiration are event dates. status is the registry state, nameservers are the delegated NS hosts, and registrar is the sponsoring registrar. An empty field was not returned.

For an IP, inspect the registered range, exact CIDR cover, network name, registrant organizations and registration country code. The country code is not a device location. Domain expiry and IP resource registration dates describe different things.

Glossary

RDAP
A registry query that returns a registration object as JSON.
registry
The side that holds registration data for that TLD. The endpoint comes from bootstrap.
registrar
The sponsoring registrar, shown only as far as the registry returns it.
status
State flags on the object, such as clientTransferProhibited.

FAQ

How is this different from WHOIS?
This page uses RDAP only. It does not connect to a classic WHOIS port.
Will a name or address appear?
Individual contact fields are not displayed. IP organization names are shown only when the registry explicitly marks them as organization registrants.
What about an unsupported TLD?
If bootstrap has no endpoint, the page reports UNSUPPORTED_TLD.
What input is allowed?
A domain name or public IPv4 / IPv6 address. IDNs can be entered as-is. URLs, ports, CIDR ranges and private IPs are excluded.
Where does the query go?
IANA bootstrap first, then the TLD registry for a domain or a Regional Internet Registry for an IP. The input is part of the lookup path.

Updated:

Look up IP address registration

Enter a public IPv4 or IPv6 address. The IANA allocation ranges select a Regional Internet Registry (RIR), which supplies the RDAP information. This does not connect to or scan the submitted IP.

  • Network name and range: the registered resource containing the IP. This is separate from the registration of a website's domain.
  • Country code: a registration value. With VPNs, CDNs and cloud services it may differ from the location of a connection or user.
  • Registration and change dates: events for the IP resource. These are not a domain expiry date or website launch date.
  • Reverse DNS: query the PTR record separately after checking registration. A PTR name alone does not authenticate the sender.

Local or special-use IPs, CIDR ranges and URLs are not accepted as input. The WHOIS handoff for .jp domains is separate from IP lookups in the APNIC region.
