ASCII form for DNS settings
xn--bcher-kva.de
Readable Unicode form
bücher.de
This checks a name's representation. It does not determine registration availability, DNS configuration or website safety.
Label-by-label correspondence
Labels are listed from left to right. ASCII byte counts exclude separating dots. Unicode code-point counts can differ from the number of visible characters.

Width forms, separators and case are normalized; some invisible characters are removed. Similar-looking characters may still identify different names. Check the ASCII form and code points.

What this tool does
This service computes the submitted name on its server and returns ASCII and Unicode forms, with label lengths. It performs no DNS or registration-service lookup.
How to read the result
Copy ASCII where required for DNS settings. Unicode is readable but can contain lookalike characters. ASCII labels are checked at 1–63 bytes and the whole name at up to 253 characters, excluding a trailing dot. Conversion does not establish registration eligibility or site safety.
Glossary
- Punycode
- An encoding of Unicode strings as ASCII; internationalized domain ASCII labels add the xn-- prefix.
- IDN
- A domain name that includes non-ASCII labels, such as Japanese.
- A-label
- The ASCII form stored in DNS (xn--...).
- Unicode code point
- A character code such as U+65E5, useful for distinguishing lookalikes. A visible character can contain several code points.
FAQ
- Where does conversion run?
- It runs on this service's server, with no DNS or registration-service lookup. It is not a browser-only computation.
- What can I enter?
- A host or domain name. 日本語.jp and xn--wgv71a119e.jp represent the same name. IP literals, URLs, email addresses, empty labels and invalid xn-- forms are rejected.
- Can I see A records here?
- No. Use Check DNS records for name resolution.
- Does letter case matter?
- Case, width forms and separators are normalized. A trailing dot and some invisible characters are removed. Compare input code points with the converted forms.
- What should I know before sharing input?
- Input appears in the page URL and may remain in browser history. Avoid secret internal names or other strings you cannot share. Result responses disable shared caching.
- Can I register every name that converts?
- Registries have their own character and combination rules. This service uses WHATWG URL host mapping on its server and validates input length and form. It does not perform strict IDNA2008 registration admission or an availability check.
Updated:
Mapping policy and primary sources
After NFKC normalization, the converter uses WHATWG URL host mapping and checks input constraints such as ASCII label length. This differs from strict IDNA2008 registration admission or a registry's permitted-character list.
